Stories and historical documents tell the story of the Cagna Corsa, a woman of Corsican origin named Caterina, resident in Rapallo. According to testimonies, the woman, asking for charty, often annoyed passers-by and children. A local family's newborn died, after the visit of the Cagna Corsa. The case was added to other misfortunes that occurred to children after the curses of the woman who was convincted for witchcraft. In September 1630, Caterina was burned at the stake in Piazza Banchi in Genoa. According to legend, a tile that is still blackened would be warmer than the others remembering the exact point where the woman was burned.
