The city’s prison, called "Le Nuove", was completed in 1870 and remained active until the 1980s. During fascism it was a place of imprisonment for political opponents and was bombed in 1942. In the last twenty years of the '900 it was replaced by the prison complex - Casa Circondariale "Le Vallette" and then became a museum. On the inside there is the history of the cells where, for a century and during different historical periods, many men suffered (often unjustly), died, rebelled and fought.
