Piazza Statuto Torino

In 1962, the square was the scene of one of the first great post-war workers' strikes. During theseason of contracts in the engineering sector tens of thousands of demonstrators from Fiat and Lancia poured into Piazza Statuto between 6 and 10 July 1962 to protest against the UIL, which had its headquarters there and had signed an agreement with the Fiat. Serious clashes with the police followed and hundreds of arrests among the demonstrators.
