The capital was transferred and the square fight back

From 1866 the capital was transferred to Florence and then Rome, thus the company lost interest in finishing the square and the construction was turned over to the municipality. In september 1865, at the eve of the relocation of the capital to Florence, Piazza Statuto was stage of violent turmoils against the Royal Army which caused many victims among the protesters.
