La lénta

La lénta is the product par excellence that is grown in Castelluccio. It is an annual lentil that is sown after the melting of the snow. Until the end of July when the "carpinatura" begins (that is the collection that was once exclusively made by hand, mostly by women called "carpirine") it only requires rain. Unique for its polychrome appearance and for its small size, in 1997 it obtained, through a community decree, the European recognition of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).

Called by the inhabitants of Castelluccio "Lénta", it is the representative product of the country par excellence. The use of this legume is very ancient as evidenced by the discovery of seeds in Neolithic tombs dated 3000 B.C.
