Plains

The vast plateau called Piana di Castelluccio, consisting of the Pian Grande, Pian Piccolo and Pian Perduto, originated from a tectonic distension that created a vast depression in which a lake was formed, which then dried up. The origin of the name derives from the famous Battle of Pian Perduto, which was fought between the armies of Visso and Norcia for the dominion of cultivable lands.

The plains, the bottom of an ancient lake that has disappeared today, constitute the largest enclosed basin in Italy (square Km 80)
