The church that gave the neighbourhood its name was commissioned by Madama Cristina, wife of King Vittorio Amedeo I of Savoy, who wanted a place of worship near the summer residence of Castello del Valentino. The church was designed by Amedeo di Castellamonte in 1646, using the same workers involved in the construction of the castle. In 1653 the Servants of Mary settled in the church, and a convent and a hospital were added. In the mid-1800s, the new Chiesa dei SS. Pietro e Paolo became the district parish, replacing the older church. The convent was enlarged through a project of Barnaba Panizza.
