In 1816 the Consul of France Bernardino Drovetti decides to sell his collection of 3000 artifacts which was inventoried in Cairo by the Piedmontese traveler Carlo Vidua. It took 10 years for the Savoy family to obtain the collection at the price of 300,000 lire and the Museum was finally created on 8 November 1824.
