At the end of the 1800s, the excavation works of Colle di S.Andrea began, for the urban renewal plan leading to Piazza DeFerrari and via Dante. All the houses of the ancient city to the left of the door were demolished and the medieval walls, which over the centuries have become part of warehouses and foundations for the houses built above, emerged. Within a few months even that stretch of walls and the buildings above will be demolished and in their place the prestigious buildings of the new city center will be built (such as the Bank of Italy).
The photo shows the towers of the door during the restoration, with a restored tower with battlements and the other still walled and without Ghibelline battlements.
