Carbonia: Landscape Machine Carbonia

Eu Landscape Award 2010-2011. IT Winner

The complex program of valorization of a recent but relevant landscape (Carbonia is a company town founded in the early 20th century) and of its mine equipment received the European award in 2011. The site is an UNESCO Geopark and also an interest area of the Regional Plan. The award was received for the complete structure of this program that integrates new operational instruments such as the city development plan, projects for the touristic enhancement of the mine along with requalification of the public spaces and facility areas of the original city project from 1936. For the relation system it establishes, we can consider the project as a local development engine for the whole area as well as a model for other mining regions of the island of Sardinia.
