The mount gained fot the first time its current reputation in 1240, when Mongols invaded Kyiv. It's here, inside its caves, that fleeing peoplefromf Kyiv tried to find a shelter. Batu Khan solved everything in a very simple way, he bricked up the walls, not allowing to any human being to escape. It's well-known that about 1000 people were buried alive.
