The theater remained in use for over two centuries, until the advent of Christianity led to the prohibition of theatrical performances and performances in amphitheaters. At the end of the 4th century the building was abandoned and was used as a quarry for building materials for the construction of the first cathedral, dedicated to Christ the Savior.
