At the end of the conflict, the problem of the reconstruction of the theater is proposed ex novo. From 1948 to 1965 there were several variations to the executive project of 1938. In 1963 the foundation stone of a new theatre was laid, designed by Morbelli and Morozzo della Rocca, winners of a competition. Of the new conception of the theater remains the almost complete encumbrance of the court of the Royal Academy, whose buildings had been badly damaged during the war, and the choice not to emerge on the front of Piazza Castello, moving the part of the stage machines to the east.
