The staircase

The Palace of Maria Cristina was a palace for parties and music, the Regent Giovanna Battista invests, instead, the Palazzo in a more institutional role. The staircase of Juvarra enhances this last aspect: an accessible place but that amazes the visitor and imposes the utmost respect. It was perfect for the function hosted in the mid-1800s: the first Senate of the Kingdom.

The engraving, used for newspapers of the time, shows the staircase in the mid-nineteenth century, when the staircase becomes the access to the Senate obtained in the central hall of the Palace.
