The fence

Carlo Alberto instructs Pelagio Palagi to design a replacement of the historic partitioning between Piazzetta Reale and the public square, destroyed by fire in 1811. The design of the gate that will be made of iron and cast iron is neoclassical style, light but rich in symbols, mottos, coats of arms of the Savoy dynasty and female faces A few years later it will be completed with the equestrian bronzes of Castor and Pollux.

The photo underlines the elegance of the gate, which reduces to a light filter what had been a barrier before. The lighting enhances an effect sought after 800: on the gate were installed the first gas lamps.
