Located next to the Church and the Convent of Mount Cappuccini, it was created in 1874 thanks to the members of the Alpine Club who wanted to make it a national and international cultural centre, dealing with all the mountains of the world but above all the Italian ones. In 1942, the museum's transformation works led to an expansion three times the size of the original museum. During the Second World War it was severely damaged by bombs and incendiary fragments.
