Under the walkway, a hall, enlightened with 38 skylights, is created for the Caffè Romano (named after its owner). In 1897, Alfredo Scott transformed it into the first coffee concert of a certain importance in Turin with a 600-seat underground hall for the winter and a summer garden on Piazza Castello for summer variétés. Considered among the most elegant Turin cafés-chantant, it was frequented by great names of the belle-époque variety: from the chanteuses Yvette Guilbert and "La Belle" Otero to the sketch artists like Maldacea or Leopoldo Fregoli, as well as a young Macario who plays here with the role of the second comedian.
