Fires have always been one of the most frequent problems in the city of Kharkiv. In fact, in the 19th century the buildings were mostly built in wood, so it was decided to build a new barracks in a strategic position, high enough to allow identification and timely intervention to put out the fire. The project was entrusted to the architect Hryhoriy Stryzhevsky.
