Костел Найсвятішого Серця Ісуса / Chiesa del Sacro Cuore di Gesù Chernivtsi urban hromada

In the 60s of the XX century. the temple was turned into an archive. To do so, it underwent various changes; during which, the stained glass windows were broken, the columns were dismantled and the height of the sanctuary was divided into three floors. The director's office was set up in place of the altar, and all church utensils, sculptures and even bells were taken away. At the same time, the organ of the sanctuary was brought into the courtyard and left to rot. The Armenian minority who needed an instrument for their church was not taken into account. Decorative elements symbolizing the Christian religion were torn from the walls in the middle of the night and thrown to the ground through the windows. Today, you will find some fragments in the local history museum.
