Костел Найсвятішого Серця Ісуса / Chiesa del Sacro Cuore di Gesù Chernivtsi urban hromada

Local believers and magnates donated their funds for the construction of the temple. The author of the project was Josef Leitzner, an architect from Chernivtsi and director of the Higher Industrial School. The total construction cost was 208,000 golden coins. The consecration took place on June 7, 1891, and in the spring of 1894, 3 bells were brought from Edinburgh. The biggest one, was called "Heart of Jesus". Immediately after the consecration, the church was declared a clergy house, which meant that the usual rites for parishioners (marriages, baptisms, funerals) would not be held here.
