In 1846 (the year of the expansion plan) the engineer Henry Mans presents his project for a railway yard in Genoa. The Porta Nuova position, in the middle of the square Carlo Felice with the lateral sections straddling Corso Vittorio, causes some discussions and protests, given the proximity to the buildings. So the Commission proposes to move back the station, on the current Via Berthollet.
