The 1808 "Plan Général d'Embellissement" involves the construction of four tree-lined "grandes places", in correspondence of the ancient gates of Turin. In the Porta Nuova area the plan involves a big squared parade ground (Champ de Mars, 300x300) with two hemicycles. The tree-lined streets surround the square and join the ancient royal streets.
