Zita, the saint of housekeepers

The Sisters of Faà di Bruno are inspired by Saint Zita, a medieval saint of Lucca, also mentioned by Dante in the Divina Commedia. She worked for a rich family in the city. Very devoted, she had the task of distributing to the poor the alms of the masters. She often gave more than what she had been given because she always added something from her food and her salary. Believing that she was used to stole, the master asked her what contained the apron she wore while going to the poor. "Flowers and fronds!" Replied the servant, dissolving the bundle: a miracle had turned alms into fragrant flowers. Patron of Lucca is the protector of housekeepers, housewives and bakers
