The church was built in San Donato district in expansion after the unification of Italy and the relocation of the capital city from Turin to Florence (1864). The realization of the two branches of Ceronda Channel, facilitated the growth of industrial activities and working-class settlements. At the same time were created different works by philantropist and benefactor that intercepted new social needs.
