After the Trinity, unmarried girls gathered together and sailed each other a wreath in a sign of sincere friendship. The girls took a wreath and kissed through the ring. This was called the Kumlennia, from which the word "kuma" (godmother) came. It was believed that if a girl receives a wreath woven from a birch, then she automatically becomes "kuma", that means that she can already marry and give birth to children.
