from Theatrum Sabaudiae
Starting from 1634, the first nucleus of the gardens was set up, belonging to the new Ducal Palace, in what was then the extreme outskirts of Savoy Turin, taking inspiration from the major European palaces. With the expansion of the city towards the Po (1673) the gardens are enlarged with the creation of new parterres and fountains.
In the view of the Theatrum Sabaudiae the ennobling role of the gardens is evident, which make the Turin residence resemble those of the major French cities.
