the Fountain of the Rivers

The large horseshoe-shaped fountain was built by the association of Ignazio Birago di Borgaro who designs the ramps and the architectural conformation with the Collino brothers who are the authors of the sculptural groups that emerge from the water. A 1767 drawing by Birago illustrated the design of the fountain with niches surmounted by tympanums to house the statues, and in the same years, ground transports were carried out to build the ramps up to the park. Finally, this project created a connection between the lower garden and the park on the upper level that in the following centuries underwent numerous transformations.
