During the Napoleonic occupation, the Castle and the park lost their function as representative residences. The Castle became a hospice and the park was divided into smaller properties, for the purpose of being sold to private individuals. In 1823, after the restoration, the castle returned to the property of the royal family and Carlo Felice decided to make new changes such as the enlargement of the park which increased to 34 hectares of extension. Moreover, the German landscape architect Xavier Kurten designed some areas of the park following the "English" taste, abandoning the green symmetries in favor of the romantic taste that is still evident today.
