The Philharmonic Academy

The Philharmonic Academy is founded in 1814 by fifty music lovers in some spaces above the Ristorante del Cambio, in Piazza Carignano. Members increase over time and many headquarters are changed until the palace Isnardi of Piazza San Carlo was bought in 1838. A big room for the musical performances, the Odeo, was built in 1839 by the architect Giuseppe Talucchi above the terrace planned by Alfieri. In 1947 members of another illustrious institution, the Society of the Whist (founded by Cavour in 1841) joined the Philharmonic Academy. Today they still occupy the palace rooms.
