Early in his career, Michelangelo Antonioni chooses the city of Turin to describe the world of the upper middle class, also inspired by Cesare Pavese. The Leone d'Argento received at the Venice Film Festival was very important to the film director and to the screenwriters Suso Cecchi D’Amico e Alba De Cespedes. The elegant piazza San Carlo of Turin, and particularly the liberty elegance of one of its historical coffees, are the setting of the story.
