The bombed market

The pavilion was then rebuilt in the '60s and again destroyed and redone in 2003 on a project by Fuksas. In the background you can see the palaces that border the square that are destroyed as well, as if the market was a strategic military target. The two corner buildings were demolished and replaced in the '70s by the twelve-floor building with a portico that today constitutes the only recent insertion at the edge of the square.

The "allied" air raids of 30 November 1942 bombed the north-west pavilions of the market.
