How to effect a place carée
The secular use for market spoils the idea of courtly space, designed to be squared and with noble faces. Anyway this use ends up giving an important role to the square in Turin urban culture, so much so that today all the old Turinese know about Piazza Carlina, almost always without knowing anything about the rich popular history that has developed around here.
In the map of 1760-70 are evident the four pavilions (the Tettoje of Casalis) which make the square rectangular and form a curtain in relation to the noble façades and the church.
