Motivations

When the diagonal was proposed, the members of the commission Ceppi and Ferrante, justified their choice, claiming that in the long run, the eye gets tired to look without ever meeting a place to lay. So in addition to facilitating communications, it would interrupt the monotony of a typically Roman city.
