The square of ceremonies

For several centuries the square was represented as a place of royal ceremonies, in order to contain and to filter the different ranks of participants and the public among its scenes the processions.

An engraving by Tesnière of 1676, designed by Cortella and Recchi, for the funeral of Charles Emmanuel II, we see the arrangements of the fronts of Palazzo Madama.
