The Carlo Promis' plan and the Avenue of the King

The enlargement plan of the City of Turin outside Porta Nuova, signed by the architect Carlo Promis, was approved in 1851. Promis openly declares its willingness to integrate the new urban development with the existing city, in particular by giving continuity to the backbone and to the entire road network of the ancient city. The plan involves the stretch between Via Rattazzi and Corso Re Umberto, provides facades of uniform design, strictly respected in the construction of buildings and arcades that follow the Lombard scheme of the adjacent Piazza Carlo Felice.

When Corso Vittorio was still Viale del Re and it was not paved
