Свято Купала / Ivan Kupala Falkiv

Kupalo is a slavic mythological character related to the celebration of summer solstice. For slavic people he is the god of summer sun, of love and of the procreation. Most of the origine of the rites that accompany the celebration remains still unknown. With the advent of Christianity in Est Europe, there was a serious attempt to suppress and delate the pagan cult, but the Church understood that this pre-Christian custom was deep-rooted in the culture of people and started to adapt to it: this is also the reason of the adding the name Ivan (John); made by the church to give the festivity a Christian correlation.
