Savoy ambitions for a strong army

The history of this place began in 1582. The Duke Emanuele Filiberto wanted to avoid the almost total dependence of his army from foreign supplies and ordered Antonio Ponte, gunpowder maker, to transform the Borgo Dora sawmills into millstones used for the production of gunpowder ("molere").
